Miller and Carter Gift Card Terms: The 12 Key Rules
This website is independent and not affiliated with Miller & Carter. Menus and prices vary by restaurant and change over time, so please confirm current details with the restaurant before ordering or booking.
Miller and Carter gift card terms run to 12 official rules. The ones that matter most: the card stays valid for 24 months from the last time value was loaded or spent, it cannot be exchanged for cash, and it works at any Mitchells and Butlers venue in the UK. Lost or stolen cards are not replaced, so treat the card the way you would treat cash.
Miller and Carter Gift Card Terms in Plain English
The official terms appear on the Miller and Carter FAQ page. Here is what each rule means in practice.
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| No cash value | The card cannot be exchanged for cash. |
| Not a bank card | It is not a cheque guarantee, credit, debit or charge card. |
| No change given | If your bill is lower than the card value, you get no change, but the remaining balance stays on the card for your next visit. |
| Lost or stolen | The company accepts no liability for lost or stolen cards. Keep it safe. |
| Balance checks | Check the remaining balance at showmybalance.com before you visit. |
| Validity period | The card is valid for 24 months from the date value was last loaded or last spent, whichever is later. |
| Where it works | Valid at any Mitchells and Butlers venue in the UK. It cannot be used for online purchases, at Moto services or other franchises, or at sites not managed by Mitchells and Butlers. Ask your server before ordering. |
| Purchase limits | Cards can be bought with values from £5 to £250. |
| Digital cards | Digital gift cards should be treated as cash. If deleted, they will not be resent, and there is no SMS option. |
| Paying for the card | Pay with a valid debit or credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay. American Express is not accepted. Physical cards carry a delivery charge as shown on the website; eGift cards are delivered free of charge. |
| Presenting a digital card | A digital card is valid on a smartphone screen or printed out. |
| Repeat use | The card can be used more than once, until the balance is fully spent. |
Where the Card Works
The card is not limited to Miller and Carter. It is valid at any Mitchells and Butlers venue in the UK, which covers the whole steakhouse group plus the company’s other restaurant and pub brands. There is an official venue finder on the Dining Out gift card website if you want to check a particular site.
The exclusions matter. The card cannot be used to pay for anything online, at Moto service stations or other Mitchells and Butlers franchises, or at sites the company does not manage. If you are unsure about a venue, check with your server before you order. Our main gift card guide has more on buying and giving the card.
The 24 Month Validity Rule
The 24 month clock restarts every time you use the card. Both loading new value and spending count, so a card you keep topping up or spending from stays live. Once 24 months pass with no load and no spend, the card expires.
One thing to watch: some older listings from third party retailers still show 12 months from the date of purchase and a maximum value of £500. The current official terms say 24 months and £5 to £250. If your card came from a retailer rather than direct from Miller and Carter, check the terms printed with it.
Lost, Stolen or Deleted Cards
This is the harshest part of the terms. A lost or stolen card will not be replaced, and the balance goes with it. Digital cards get the same treatment: if you delete the email, it will not be resent. Save the card number and PIN somewhere safe the moment the card arrives, and check the gift card guides for how to check your balance.
Buying a Gift Card: Limits and Payment
Cards are sold in values from £5 to £250. You can pay with a debit card, credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay, but not American Express. Physical cards have a delivery charge, shown during checkout, while eGift cards are delivered free. Note that your own bank may treat a credit card purchase of a gift card as a cash advance, which can carry fees, so check with your provider if that worries you.
Getting the Most from the Card
Because there is no change given, plan your spend. Browse the main menu and the drinks menu before your visit so you can use the full value across food and drinks. The offers page is worth a look too, since a set menu deal can stretch the card further. Gift cards differ from promotional codes, which are covered in our voucher guide. If you are planning a visit, read the booking guide as well.
FAQs
Can I get cash back from a Miller and Carter gift card?
No. The terms state the card may not be exchanged for cash, and no change is given on purchases. Leftover balances stay on the card for future visits.
How long is a Miller and Carter gift card valid?
24 months from the date value was last loaded onto the card or last spent, whichever is later. Each load or spend restarts the clock.
Can I use the card at other restaurants?
Yes, at any Mitchells and Butlers venue in the UK. It cannot be used online, at Moto services or franchises, or at sites not managed by Mitchells and Butlers.
What happens if I lose the card?
It will not be replaced. The terms place the risk on the holder, so treat the card like cash and keep the card number and PIN recorded safely.
